Funky icicle in St Jean de Sixt

<Photo of an icicle outside the Saint Jean de Sixt tourist office>After a family visit and a whirlwind trip to Rome for the weekend, I haven’t had a chance to write the third and final installment of what happened after we left the refuge a few weeks ago.

In the mean time, here’s a photo I took a few weeks ago outside the tourist office in Saint Jean de Sixt. Giant icicles had formed over the chains that hang from the roof of the building, causing beautiful sunlight reflections and colours to appear on the frozen water. Walking around this icicle was like walking around a crystal, with every angle providing different colours and depth. Even the intact black chain looked warped through the layers of frozen water.

You might be wondering why there are chains hanging from the tourist office. The chains replace a drainpipe, allowing the water to trickle down the chain rather than shower down and make a big splash all around. Sometimes, the water just doesn’t make it to the ground.

This is one of many photos I took, so if you’d like to see more, let me know.
