A competition – win stuff!

One of the toughest times of the year for me and many other people living away from home is Christmas. I have fond memories of going for a swim on hot Christmas days in Melbourne and plum pudding ice cream (we had to cool down somehow after that big hot turkey roast), and I miss those special moments with family. However, living overseas has provided some fantastic Christmas breaks too. For me, white Christmases here in the Alps never lose their charm, and I’ve enjoyed the most unexpected Christmases of my life abroad – Christmas in Orthodox Russia, a Christmas day picnic with seasonaire friends at 2,000 metres altitude, a Christmas in Cambridge with visiting family, and a Christmas in a tiny apartment where I somehow cooked an entire roast meal for five in a compact toaster-grill oven, complete with roast potatoes.

<Photo of me in French Property News magagazine>Whether you’re living abroad or not, I have a Christmas competition for you! I’ve teamed up with Subscription Save to offer three lucky readers a year’s subscription to France Magazine, Living France, or French Property News (which featured an interview with yours truly last month).

For the chance to win a subscription to France Magazine, Living France or French Property News, leave a comment below, telling me in one line what your ideal Christmas break would be. Winners will be picked randomly and can have the magazine of their choice sent to a loved one or kept as a special treat.

You can gain an additional two entries to the competition by retweeting @wendy_hollands promoting the competition on Twitter and by sharing a link from Le Franco Phoney’s Facebook page (you must like the page to share the link.) The number of entries will not increase if you retweet or share links more than once, although you’re obviously welcome to do so.

Good luck to all my readers!

Terms and conditions: This competition has been extended and now closes at 23.59 on 20.12.2013. Any entries received after this time will not be counted. If for any reason the particular prize is out of stock then an appropriate alternative will be sought. Entrants must be aged 18 years or older to enter. By entering this competition you agree and consent to your name being published and your details being sent to the prize giving company. By taking part in the competition, entrants are deemed to have read, understood and accepted all of the Terms and Conditions and agreed to be bound by them. The winner will be selected at random and will be announced here on the blog.

  1. My perfect Christmas is just spending time with family and friends. Of course great food helps to!

  2. Because one of my daughters lives in Australia and the other in England my ideal Christmas break would be the whole family gathered to together in England or Australia, I don’t mind which.

  3. Fluffy white snow outside, crackling log fire, roasted chestnuts, vin chaud and entwined toes with the man that I adore – reflecting on love and family …. The essence of Christmas 🙂

  4. Just like last year….with friends who enjoy entertaining and cooking. It must work as we are invited back again in 29 days time! Have a lovely holiday.

  5. Anywhere I could have my children/grandchildren all together at Christmas would be ideal.

  6. sunny skies, snow underfoot and a roaring log fire to return to after a day in mountains spent with friends and family.

  7. my perfect Christmas day would be on Easter Island – an Island out of space and out of time ! – with my beloved family.

I already spent Xmas on Easter Island, but alone.

They call Christmas Eve the “Easter Eve”. in the church, the priest has a bougainvillea necklace. On Christmas day, I had a swim with these amazing statues on the beach, starring at me. It’s magic!

  8. My perfect Christmas starts the eve before—the “French” version, with friends and family, sharing champagne, oysters, foie gras and smoked salmon, reflecting on the year.

  9. Congratulations to the three winners of the competition: Jacqui, Sabine and Richie, who have all now been contacted. I hope you’re all enjoying this lovely Christmas day even if it’s not your ideal experience. They all sound fantastic.
