A snapshot of Annecy

Last weekend, Annecy bathed in glorious sunshine during the annual Venetian carnival. I took lots of photos of the gorgeous outfits, but my favourite is this one, which I snapped from a moving car on the way home.

Lake Annecy in Spring

This photo says so much about Annecy. The little girl is dressed for the carnival festivities, and families with babies and kids are strolling along at a relaxed pace. Annecy is the epitome of relaxed!

The people on the seat are watching the calm lake (still too cold for many wake boarders or water skiers to be creating waves), and on the very left of the photo, you can see a rocky outcrop. From a boat on the lake, this looks like Napoleon’s hat (and that’s what it’s called).

The mountains fold from each side until they overlap behind the lake, and at the moment, the snow on the peaks makes the views even more spectacular. The distant hazy clouds don’t show off just how massive these mountains are, but I love everything else about this photo. I hope you do too!

  1. I completely agree with you. We are living in Annecy for more than a year already, and I just can’t get enough of this marvelous view. And have you seen a new ponton (molo) which was build in the Petit Port area? It’s amazing, especially in the evening during the sunset.

  2. Oh Tibor, the work they’ve done to the Petit Port is fantastic! It’s so great to pop over to the pizza shop and sit by the lake as the sun sets in summer, and now there’s a beautiful on-lake walk on the new pontoon after all that the pizza scoffing. I can’t wait to test it out. :O)
