Why Le Franco Phoney?
I started this blog in 2008, a little while after settling in La Clusaz, France, as a way of keeping track of some of the surprising, funny, annoying and heartwarming aspects of living in France.
The name came about because I was trying my hardest to be accepted by some of the more hostile locals, feeling apologetic for even walking into some of their shops to buy their goods. As a result, I did my best to be as French as possible, trying not to stand out as un-French — at least until I could speak more than a few words of French. I felt like a fake French person — more of a francophoney than a francophile.
Thankfully, my French has improved dramatically, but my Australian ways remain and I still do feel like a franco phoney.
I hope you find my blog posts entertaining and enlightening. Comments are more than welcome – I love reading the opinions of my readers, and every comments makes the hours of writing this blog worthwhile. I hope to hear from you soon.
