Buy a French ski resort!
I heard on the radio this morning that a ski resort has been put up for sale in popular French ebay-style site, Le Bon Coin. Sure enough, you can buy an entire ski resort for just €550,000, complete with three drag lifts, a creperie, a ski shop, summer equipment and every type of motorised vehicle you’re likely to need!
This is no joke. However, the ski resort of Loge des Gardes is part of the Massiv Central (see red dot on the map), which has less snow than the Alps. The highest peak is 1,160 metres — just 60 metres higher than the village of La Clusaz and en entire kilometre lower than the highest peak of La Clusaz. There’s only 2 kilometres of snowy pistes, but summertime looks like lots of fun with a big donut luge ride.
It’s surprising that the resort is up for sale after such a bumper year of snow last year. But with day tickets costing just €14, perhaps the increase in sales wasn’t so huge after all. Even so, at the the price of the whole whoever buys it might just decide to keep it private. Fresh tracks every day — or at least when the snow falls that low.
