Frozen yoghurt reaches Annecy!

<Photo of the new frozen yoghurt shop in Annecy>When I was growing up in Australia, one of my favourite snacks was frozen yoghurt. It had the consistency of soft-serve and was available in a variety of flavours (unlike soft-serve). The climate in France is more conducive to crepes and hot chocolates, so I wasn’t surprised at the lack of frozen yoghurt options available in La Clusaz and even Annecy.

My memories of frozen yoghurt were reignited in June, when a stopover at Athens airport involved a sumptuous serve of heaven in a cup. As I slowly devoured the treat, my travel partner asked if there was a time difference between Greece and France, and that’s how the second half of the frozen yoghurt was scoffed so we didn’t miss our onward journey. Yes, there’s an hour’s difference.

It’s as if the yoghurt gods heard my gasps of joy in Athens because a frozen yoghurt shop opened in Annecy over the summer. Nestled in the old town, I only noticed it on an overcast and cold autumn’s day. The shop was empty, but if it can survive the winter, I think I’ll keep the business running for all of next summer. I suggest they turn to waffles, crepes and hot drinks until then.

  1. This is great news!! I’ve written about the lack of good froyo in France, so maybe this chain in Annecy will come near me. We can hope, right?

  2. Diane, hope away. If frozen yoghurt can make it to traditional Annecy, it will arrive near you very soon! Mandy, it will always be popular in my belly. 🙂

  3. There’s thousands of frozen yoghurt shops in my area – some of them right next to each other. Bit of a craze here!

  4. Hi, what’s the address? We’re going by the meanderings of my daughter, who’s been twice but by foot.

    • Wendy, it’s smack bang in the middle of Rue St Claire, number 25. As you walk up from the lake end, you pass all the restaurants, the Brittany creperie etc., and when you’re not far from Place St Claire, look left and you’ll spot it.

There’s a chill in the air up here, so biking might not happen now until spring, unless we get warmer weather. 🙂
