Selling cream with boobs

It’s been a while since I picked on an advertisement (you might remember my dig at Kinder Bueno) on French TV, so here it is. It’s an ad about boobs. Okay, it’s meant to be advertising thickened cream in France but I’m pretty sure it’s just selling boobs. Watch for yourself:

<Stills from a French television advert>The French voiceover tells the story of a woman who visits the market to find food for her friends coming over for dinner. The first five seconds is an introduction to the lady’s boobs, then after a quick recipe involving seafood, and then we hit the big time at 9 seconds. The lady’s boobs accidentally knock the fruit lady! I’ve taken some stills in case the video isn’t displaying, but the comical bump really is worth watching. They both seem so surprised at the collision — and indeed I too would be surprised if someone ran into me with their boobs. When did boobs become bumper bars?

A peach crumble appears, then we’re back to boobs at 13 seconds, where the lady does a little run, perhaps trying to use her boobs to propel herself if her weird boob thrusting is anything to go by. There’s a quick cut to “her favourite” cream seller, handing her the thickened cream containers, which she holds, of course, right in front of her boobs (18 seconds in), smiling. The voiceover asks if she’s going to invite the cream seller to dinner too, then says “you can guess.”

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any more cheesily sexually charged, the voiceover says at the end “Bridelice. Une envie, un delice” which translates to “Bridelice. A desire, a pleasure”. The feminist in me should be annoyed at the obvious sexual objectification of women shown in this advert, but I can’t help being amused by how terrible it is. How about you?

  1. I wish to purchase whatever product or event she is selling. So I guess it’s a successful advertisement 😀

  2. Maybe I’ve been desensitized after living in France for 8 years, but it didn’t shock me. I guess I’ve gotten used to the second and third degree in the ads. lol

Oh and at the end it says “une envie, un délice” (not à délice) which means “a desire, a pleasure”

  3. Samantha, the cream innuendo is great isn’t it!

Francine, thanks for the correction: I’m always hearing the wrong thing. I actually quite like this ad for its comic value, which I’m not sure was actually intended. I was probably shocked the first time I saw a bare breast on an ad during Saturday morning TV though. *That* would never happen in Australia! 😀

  4. “That would never happen in Australia”
Did you never watch “Rage” on the ABC?
Plenty of bare breasts these days.
    Apparently. So I am told.
