The new busking trend in Paris
Paris is full of busking pianists.
The city of love has changed in lots of little ways since I was last there two years ago. And the most entertaining change is the street buskers with pianos. I saw four in one day, and three of them had half naked pianos, like the one pictured here, which I found in the Latin quarter of Paris. Perhaps the sound is louder that way, or the piano is lighter to cart around, or both. Maybe it’s easier to grip the piano to drag it onto wheels for moving. I guess public transport isn’t an option.
I’m back in the Alps now after two weeks of road tripping. Paris was one of many stops around France and beyond, so a few more non-mountain-life stories will be coming your way.

I’d love to see a pianist busking on the Metro though!
Hope he makes enough money for a piano app for his iPad!
The thing that I wonder is how they get them there! We had a regular pianist at Place Palais Royal for a long time. I loved going out of the metro to the sound of his piano.
A pianist in the Metro would be very cool! And I love that they’re playing with real character and energy. There’s some real talent there! Dave, someone was taking a photo with their iPad, actually…
A piano was pushed into the center of York and played very well by a pianist in gloves. We, who worked in a shop near by, were well entertained.
There was another busker who played ‘Here comes the sun’ on a guitar almost continually, he was not popular!
Wow, I can’t imagine playing the piano in gloves. Nice entertainment while you’re working, for sure. Not so sure about repetitive busking!
