Injured in France? You’ll be fine
That’s my foot, complete with an infection after I slipped over last week. By Friday night, I could no longer walk without a lot of pain, so I went to the doctor, and he gave me this assortment of objects.
My foot is dwarfed by the size of the bandages and the various other items the doctor prescribed. Here, we have antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, antibacterial spray, those massive spongy, sticky bandages, and some very wide tape at the back there to hold the sticky bandage in place. The pharmacist apologised for not having the prescribed number of bandages. It’s a pack of 16! I doubt I’ll get through half of the ones I have.
I had a similar experience last year when whooping cough attacked. With the Carte Vitale (French health care card), the cost of last week’s haul was just €6. Without it, I wouldn’t have had enough cash on me to pay.
So, if you’re injured in France and you don’t have a Carte Vitale, fear not: you’ll have all the healthcare you require to make you better so you can pay off the loan you took out to pay for the medication.

Nice foot by the way – even with the injuries , )
Thanks Jason. The foot still has a mini-volcano on it weeks later! Not so pretty at the moment…
